The Launch Dicks Bar & Dick's Stout
18 October 2016
The Launch of Dicks Bar
Dick Fitzgerald was the essence of what a true Kerryman is. To honour and commemorate the memory of Dick, we have renamed our bar in his honour “Dicks Bar”. Launched in front of a crowd of his friends and family on the 29th September, being the second anniversary of his passing. Not only did we launch the bar on the night but we also had the official launch of Dick’s Stout. Many times would you enter the bar in Woodlands to be greeted by Dick with a pint of stout and a welcoming smile. He was a colourful character and the epitome of Irish hospitality.

Anyone who knew him, knew that he was happiest with a pint of stout in his hand holding court amongst his friends. When Dick passed to his eternal reward we knew there was only one way to truly celebrate his life. So we saw it fit to create a stout in his honour. When we heard of JJ’s Craft Brewing Company in Kilmallock, we felt there was no better people that could create and develop a stout that enraptured the essence of Mr. Dick Fitzgerald. So JJ’s alongside the Fitzgerald Family set out to create “Dick’s Stout”. It took over a year to create however the result is just what Dick would have created himself – a combination of chocolate and fruit tones with a crisp, dry finish. It is a stout that Dick would have been equally happy serving as drinking himself; a stout with plenty of personality.

As many regular visitors to the Bar would know, Dick’s passing has not just created an absence in our lives, but also in the hotel and bar. His warm welcome was legendary, as was his stock of ‘sayings’ many of which have been incorporated into the character and personality of Dicks Bar. Many of you may also remember Dick’s corner, at the end of the bar in a little alcove, with a perfect view of the television for when the sport was on. Today Dick’s Corner is a memorial to the great man, displaying images of his early days, sporting days and the colourful character that he was.
